Vietnam's trade deficit with ASEAN reaches 2.13 bln USD in 9 months

HANOI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam ran a trade deficit of 2.13 billion U.S. dollars with ASEAN member states in the first nine months of 2013, accounting for 15.5 percent of the country's total export to the bloc, reported the General Department of Vietnam Customs on Monday.


Specifically, during the nine-month period, Vietnam earned 13. 72 billion dollars from exports to the ASEAN market, a year-on- year increase of 11.1 percent, while it spent 15.85 billion dollars for the imports, up 2.6 percent.


Among ASEAN countries, Malaysia was the biggest trade partner of Vietnam in the reviewed period, followed by Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Laos, Brunei and Myanmar, according to the customs office.
